Her bright smiley personality is the first thing you notice about her, even above those stunning blue eyes! And as you can guess she was super easy to work with and a natural in front of the camera!

Explore Minnesota February Edition | Farm Girl https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2017/3/explore-minnesota-february-edition-farm-girl A busy sports schedule in February kept our exploring to our own backyard. Here is a snap shot of a warmer than usual February day and my husband and daughter doing farm chores. You don't want to miss the cute little baby lamb toward the end. Documentary photography is not my favorite genre, I love lifestyle where I can control more of the elements. It felt good to push myself, and only create with my camera, and not my directions. Only capturing glances and smiles as they happened and letting go of that worry that it was or wasn't happening in the perfect light.

Make sure to follow the circle around and see what my friends were up to last month. First up is the very talented  Carrie Bayless and her stunning shots of MPLS.

Modehaus Bridal https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2017/1/modehausbridal Chelsea Lovett, owner and designer at Modehaus Bridal based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, asked me to document her custom dressmaking process to showcase on her website. Chelsea wanted her clients to be able to know exactly the type of attention that they were going to be getting when they commission a custom gown. In this post you get to see how one custom gown comes to life, but it's one of many. You can visit her website at modehausbridal.com to check out her bridal collections as well as other custom gowns she has created.

I love working with small business and other artists to really showcase their brand through lifestyle images. Here is what working with Chelsea looks like... and yes, you want a custom gown.. I know I do!!! Make sure to look at all the images in the post, you also get to see how great a Modehaus gown would look on your wedding day. Explore Minnesota December Edition | The Science Museum of Minnesota https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2017/1/explore-minnesota-december-edition-the-science-museum-of-minnesota December was cold, or at least the days that we had fun excursions planned. They were cut short or canceled because of the temps, so we opted inside this month for the Minnesota Project to one of our favorite places, The Science Museum of Minnesota. All 3 kids love it, and love discovering something new each time we go, as well as visiting the favorite exhibits.

Explore Minnesota October Edition- Voyageurs National Park https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2016/11/explore-minnesota-october-edition--voyageurs-national-park Last month the Minnesota Project took us to Voyageurs National Park on the very northern border of Minnesota. We are hoping to plan a summer trip up there some summer, so we took advantage of a long weekend to explore the area a little. While a vast majority of the park is only accessible by water we were able to find some fun places to explore for a day. We can't wait to plan a longer trip up here and explore the rest of the park.

Make sure to follow the rest of the circle to see where they explored this month. First up is my very talented friend Lori at Lori Dozier Photography. Click here to see what she was up to this last month.

My Minnesota September Edition Apple Jacks Orchard https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2016/10/my-minnesota-september-edition-apple-jacks-orchard This time of year is so crazy, with shooting, fall sports, and keeping up with life. I took some time with my youngest to explore Apple Jacks Orchard in Delano Minnesota for the September My Minnesota Project. We've lived near this orchard for almost 12 years, and have only been a couple times. We went during the week, so only about half of the orchard was open, which was perfect for my little guy! We had lunch in the cafe, which we loved , played on the trains and tractors in the play area, (multiple times), checked out the animals, walked down to the river, and found a perfect pie pumpkin. As we were leaving we stopped in to pick up a dozen apple cinnamon donuts to bring home!

Don't forget to follow the link around to see where my friends and fellow photographers explored this month, you may see some more apple orchards! First up is Erin make sure to see where she explored last month

After bit of a break we are back at it, sharing a place, near or far, that we visited during the month. This group is full of talented women, who I am so happy to call friends, that love to take time and document their own lives. Make sure to follow the circle, and maybe discover some new places. First up is my friend Tina Fisher, go check out where she explored last month.

In August we took a vacation to Ely, Minnesota, where we spent the week day tripping into the Boundary Waters along the Echo Trail. One evening we stopped at Fenske Lake, and took the very short hike down to a little beach. My husband always begs that we please not the kids get soaked when we stop at these on fly roadside places, which of course happens each time. Is that just my family that can't be near water, with out getting completely soaked?

with her in the garden https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2016/7/with-her-in-the-garden I spent some time wandering our garden with her. It was one of the hottest nights of the year. I wanted to remember her passion for the garden at the age of 6. I wanted to remember how her long hair tangles in the humidity. I wanted to remember her skin after a day of playing out side and running around. I wanted to remember our conversations as we weeded and got distracted by wild daisy's growing nearby.

My Minnesota February Edition https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2016/3/my-minnesota-february-edition I had intentions of posting pictures from our 60 degree Saturday at the end of February, but after today all the snow will be gone. While this does make me happy, and even more excited for summer, there is a sadness in saying goodbye to a season, so last minute I decided to change my post to pictures of a day that really showcases the beauty of Minnesota winter. A beautiful sun filled day after a long snowy night.  So this will hopefully be my farewell to winter post, and I want to remember it in the best way.

February 2016 https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2016/3/february-2016 I wrote a little about this on my personal page, but February was tougher to complete this project. Illness ripped through our house, and our chaotic life felt even more so this month. While I limit my winter sessions, I still take a couple clients, and while I adore client sessions, sometimes it's hard to balance a personal project with work. When I decided to do this project, I didn't give my self strict rules. I would forgive myself for missing a day, and allow my self to make it up, I would be ok with capturing the shot with my phone, mirrorless or mkiii, but deep down, I wanted to do do it perfect. I wanted a meaningful  shot each day, and never rely on my phone. I'll still hold myself to those original rules, and to not be hard on my self, but for the first two months, I know I did it. While again, all the shots aren't stellar, they are stellar to me, because I know how hard it was for me to complete this. If you want to see the  January post you can see it here

My Minnesota January 2016 https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2016/2/my-minnesota-january-2016 After a slight hiatus we are reviving the My Minnesota blog circle. We are a group of photographers around Minnesota and our goal is to showcase what life looks like in this great state. Our summer is hot and humid, our fall colorful and crisp, our winter extreme and our spring, well, let's just say we get an extended winter.

In January in Minnesota it's pretty common that the temps sit below 0 many days, and some days with the wind chill it drops to -30, so when it's above that we get outside and play and enjoy the winter wonderland. Here is my little guy and his best buddy exploring and just wandering through our back yard in fresh fallen snow on a mild January day.

Don't forget to follow the circle around and see what my friends are up to. I'm so lucky to have this group of talented ladies in my life. They are pretty awesome. First up is the incredibly talented Lori of Lori Dozier Photography .

January 2016 https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2016/2/january-2016 3 times I've started a 365, each time failing. It wasn't the taking a picture a day that got me, I don't struggle much with that. It was the editing that I couldn't keep up on on. Soon a week would go by and I was sitting on 200-500(!!!!) images to go through and pick one a day. I would shoot all the time and then be overwhelmed with the whole process.

Feeling like a 365 was out of reach, I knew something would need to change if I was ever going to attempt again. I needed to set a goal for my self, a purpose for doing this. I picked intent and growth.  Intent being the main motivator and growth being the outcome. I couldn't allow my self to continually snap random things all day in hopes of creating something worthwhile. I'm not knocking that, I learned so much about myself from that method. This time I just knew I needed to shoot with intent, and be forgiving of myself if the image isn't portfolio worthy, or perfect even. I don't put pressure on myself to capture a certain thing, but I do put thought into what I want to capture, if nothing is grabbing me that day I look for inspiration elsewhere, sometimes it's a technique that challenges me, and sometimes it's as simple as a word. Of course when good old fashioned inspiration comes knocking, I do my best to drop everything else and pick up my camera and answer.

Here is my January, while I shot daily and stayed caught up on editing, I'm not ready to call this a 365 (366). We'll see what the year brings

1.1 Getting Leia ready for bed 1.2 breakfast face 1.3 Look of Terror

2015 Personal Favorites https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2016/1/2015-personal-favorites I don't do new years resolutions. I may have in some point of my life, but if I, did they didn't work. I do, however, spend time at the end of December and the beginning or January reflecting on the past year and the new year that is arriving. I spend some time on artistic reflection as well. Where did I grow? Where did I become too comfortable? And most exciting, what are my plans for pushing my self further. I posted some of my favorite 2015 client a while back and it was fun to see growth(you can catch that here if you want), but this post is dedicated to what causes that growth. I bring a lot of hats to client sessions: creativity, funny, organized, structure, it takes quite some planning to pull off a very relaxed, natural, fun session. When I work with the subjects in this post I get to bring creativity, that's it. The inspiration that I get from creating these images propels and pushes my creativity for working with clients. These probably aren't the most technically sound images, or the best one's I've taken, they are the ones that mean the most to me.  It's been great reflecting, but I am ready to grow more in 2016.

Class of 2028 week 2 https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/9/class-of-2028-week-2 Welcome to the 2nd installment of the Class of 2028 a blog circle of parent/photograhers whose children are starting Kindergarten this year.

She left today in a blur of excitement and energy, running out to meet the bus hand in hand with one of her best friends. Screams of laughter filled our neighbors driveway. It's hard to feel sad with so much excitement in the air, and the giggles of a day that has been anticipated. I was doing great riding on that excitement but then the thoughts that I have been pushing away all summer started creeping up. 'Did I do enough?' 'Did I appreciate all of this enough?' 'Did we have fun?' 'Did I give her the early childhood she deserved?' I know deep down the answer is yes, just as I know there are things I probably could have done to make it even better. And while that first bus ride seems so final, at 3:30 she will return with a smile on her face and all sorts of new tales to tell me. I know there are more adventures to be had, and I'm not losing her to school, I'm just sharing her.

Along with Kindergarten today she turned six yesterday. Why does that number sound so big?! I put together a little collage for her from the last year. It's funny but looking at that this morning is what put the smile on my face. All those pictures, All those memories, reminding me that yes, we had fun, yes, we appreciated life together, and yes, there is so, so, so much more to come. Kindergarten is just another adventure on our long list.

Don't forget to see what the rest of her classmates are up to this week.  Next up is Tiffany Erb and you can check out her post here.

class of 2028 https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/9/class-of-2028 Wow... class of 2028...that sounds crazy to think that's when the kids entering kindergarten will be graduating. I'm teaming up with a bunch of photographers in all different locations to document what Kindergarten looks like. Well, I'm in complete denial that school starts next week. I'm not ready to send my kids back to school, and especially not ready to send my middle child off to kindergarten. I'm not beyond crazy, school supplies have been purchased and are ready to be dropped off at school, but beyond that I haven't done a thing. I'm not sure what fits in their closets, or if any shoes beyond flip flops fit. I haven't looked at any paper work from the school yet.

Well I guess that was a introduction to my parenting style, not to worry though everything will be done, and I won't accidentally miss the first day of school. :) So what have we been doing to get ready for school? Being out side, exploring, swimming, and finding adventures. My middle child and my only daughter would be happiest if she could be outside all day. She doesn't mind playing in the dirt and loves to keep up with her older brother. I'm a little worried about her being in a classroom all day, but I know that she will do amazing. Here is what our school prep has looked like the last two weeks and a visual introduction to her.  Make sure to follow the circle around to see what the class of 2028 looks like elsewhere first up is Paige Wilks and you can find her post here

more than a smile https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/8/more-than-a-smile 10 years ago I became a mom to a beautiful boy. Life was hazy, sleepless and amazing. Our son had some challenges, but we, us and our doctor, were just chalking it up to the fact that all babies are different. After a visit to a different pediatrician in the same practice due to a scheduling conflict our lives were forever changed. Instead of leaving the doctor with a list of what milestones were up next we were leaving with a diagnosis and a scheduled surgery. Colin had hydrocephalus and required surgery to place a shunt that ran from his brain to his abdomen. Brain surgery sounds scary. Suddenly everything was different, crazy and emotional. I picked up my point and shoot as a form of therapy, somehow being behind a camera made everything easier to process. His first surgery went great, textbook, we were home with in 4 days and working through our new normal. After about a week of being home Colin started to cry one afternoon, and something in my gut took over and I knew that this wasn't right. After a call to the neurosurgeon we were on our way to the hospital with a surgery room ready. Colin's body rejected the shunt, they got it out, but the next couple days were touch and go. He was having seizures from the brain infection and wasn't breathing on his own.  We moved in to Children's Hospital for almost a month until a new shunt was able to be placed and he could go home. I documented our whole stay, the first short one and the second long one. I got asked why I was doing that, and asked if I wouldn't rather just forget. I didn't, I didn't want to forget anything. I also wanted to show him when he got older that he could overcome anything. Look at what he went through at 3 months.

After another surgery at 7 months old, I finally took him in for professional pictures. They were cute, and the place did a great job. They put him in a little bathtub, lots of other props and he is smiling,  All our family ooohed and ahhhed. The whole process left me a little underwhelmed. They didn't feel real to me. They didn't seem to represent him and who he was. He was so, so, so much more than a smile in a bathtub.  While I already liked taking pictures at that point (really, what mom doesn't) my love grew after that. I wanted so much more from a picture, I wanted all of his personality.

Along came 2 more kids, multiple camera upgrades, new lenses, a facebook page, clients, a website. I won't deny that a lot has changed, but I still believe that children, all of us really, are so much more than a smile.

This year we celebrate him turning 10, 10 years since his first surgery and 5 years since his last surgery.

This is him then... (I didn't take the 2 pictures that I am in, my husband took those)

Here is now...

3 Year Old's Are Awesome https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/8/3-year-olds-are-awesome I had so much fun with this little girl for her 3 year old pictures. I love letting kids be kids during their sessions. They are constantly moving and exploring their world, and at this stage I feel it is so important to document that.  Watertown Minnesota Photographer, Delano Minnesota Photographer, Waconia Minnesota Photographer, Child Photographer, Family Photographer, Minneapolis Family Photographer, West Metro Family Photographer

The Guetzkow Family https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/7/the-guetzkow-family This was my 4th time working with this family in two years. I admire how much they value being in the frame with their daughter. As a parent these moments are all too fleeting, and with a blink of an eye each stage is gone. The toddler stage where they cling to you with dear life doesn't resurface in the same way in the years to come. Time will pass and children grow, and the toddler she once was will be a memory. Each new stage will be met with anticipation, excitement and celebration, but here the two year old will exist for ever.

A Girl and Her Dog https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/7/agirlandherdog This is just a short little blog post from the last 5 minutes of a family session.

Lady Bug Girl books are read non stop in our house, so when this little girl showed up to her session with a costume, wings and wand in case their was time at the end, I couldn't say no. If you aren't Lady Bug Girl fans, you probably should be, Lady Bug Girl meets life's trials head on with her trusty dog by her side, no job is too big for her and Bingo. If you are as big of fans as my family is you will see the resemblance right away. Watertown MN Photographer   Family Photographer  Child Photographer Delano MN Photographer Minnesota Photographer

My Minnesota May Edition https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/6/my-minnesota-may-edition Welcome to My Minnesota. May brought some rain, and of course mud puddles. Kids and mud puddles go together perfect right? Oh and how could I forget that laundry goes well with those two too! Don't  forget to follow the circle around and see what some of my Minnesota friends are up to. Up first is my friend Erica at Erica E Photography, who I've gotten to know better this last month. You don't want to miss her beautiful post.

All the world's a stage https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/5/all-the-worlds-a-stage One of my favorite things about working with high school seniors is getting to know them a little before our shoot. Their activities and hobbies can give such an insight to their personality. This very talented girl has spent a lot of time both on stage and behind the scenes in various theater programs. We didn't put her on a stage, we let their world be her stage for her portraits.

Rainy Day Tutu Play https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/5/rainy-day-tutu-play These two, some fun tutus, a rainy day, and about 10 minutes. I love documenting my own kids, but also their friendships. These two have been friends since they were tiny babies (I mean tiny). Well, ok maybe we moms forced that one a little, but it did evolve into such a great friendship. I'm so happy that they let me document it, and my daughter was able to last longer than her usual 60 seconds for pictures. I'll take it!

My Minnesota: January Edition https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/2/my-minnesota-january-edition Welcome to January. From being too cold to venture outside to spring like days, Minnesota sure did deliver a crazy month. This is what January looked like in my backyard.   Don't forget to follow the circle around and see what my other talented Minnesota friends were up to this month. FIVE https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/1/5-years I started taking my kids yearly pictures when my daughter was 1. Actually taking them out and hanging out with them and capturing who they were at that age. I've never been into the perfect smile, I always get one or two just to have, but they are never my favorite. My favorites are always the expressions that define them, the ones where their personality radiates out of them. I went back and looked at my daughters 2 year old pictures, at the time I was so proud of them. I loved them. I still do, but it was fun to compare them to her most recent 5 year old pictures. As photographers sometimes growth can feel stagnant, looking at old pictures can be the motivation and push that we need to keep moving and learning, and realize that we are growing. Here is what my daughter looks like at 5. I shared one of her two year old pictures on facebook, but just one, and I tried not to pick it apart...

My Minnesota December Edition https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2015/1/my-minnesota-december-edition Welcome to My Minnesota! We had a somewhat mild December, that allowed us to even spend some time outside not bundled up to the max! This is what December looks like in my yard and up in the North Woods where we do a mini pre-Christmas get away. The first morning we were there there was a light snow, so the two older kids couldn't resist running out in their pajamas! Christmas morning brought a light snow and an Elsa dress, so someone had to run out and test it's "freeze" powers!

Thanks for checking out My Minnesota, now follow the blog circle around and see what December looked like with Tim and Madie Photography. They recently switched to all Fuji gear and their images are seriously gorgeous!!!

My Minnesota November Edition https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2014/12/my-minnesota-november-edition Snow came early in Minnesota this year (Nov 10)! It was bitter sweet! Fun to see the snow again, but sad that fall was official gone a little early this year! Make sure you follow the circle around and check out what November looked like to Tim and Madie Photography

I love frost on windows, and a rare (no-makeup) selfie with me and my kids on our first snow day of the school year! I would have loved to have gotten more than one so I could have had more options, but I got one and I'll take it, imperfections and all. And then lastly, how I spend my winter months, inside with my youngest, who hates clothes!

Turning 5 https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2014/11/turning-5 Individual child sessions are one of my favorites! I love working with kids to see just exactly who they are and encompassing all of that in to a session. This client is one of my favorites. Mom gives me complete creative freedom, most of my clients do. But with her I know I can push the envelope just a little further and incorporate more creative shooting styles into the gallery. Scroll through see what turning 5 looks like!

My Minnesota: September 2014 https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2014/10/my-minnesota-september-2014 I'm so honored to join other Minnesota photographers in documenting what Minnesota looks like through our individual eyes. September was quite the month to jump in with. We are stuck somewhere between summer and winter right now, one of the most confusing months of the year. Every morning the kids want to know how to dress, with temps range from 80's to 30's. The sunsets before the kids go to bed. Leaves are falling from trees, even though it's warm enough to be in your swimsuit, the next day you are wearing layers playing in those leaves.  The activities that started during late summer on gorgeous sunny nights, are now being wrapped when the only light is headlights from cars. It's a month of beginnings and endings. A last chance to say goodbye to summer and the warmth that it brings, but also a time to welcome a season filled with it's own unique beauty.

After you've checked our what "My Minnesota" looks like, I'd love it if you head on over to Allyson Wasmund Phototography to see what Minnesota looks like through her eyes this month!

Goodnight Moon https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2014/7/goodnight-moon There are session that just evoke so much joy. Having spent some time with this couple for their maternity pictures, it was wonderful to be welcomed into their home and to capture them with their new baby. Seeing them go from a married couple to a family of 3 and watching their world change in ways that no one can describe was amazing. The whole session was so filled with love and joy especially the end with Grandpa and Grandma reading Goodnight Moon on a prerecorded book.

This is nine https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2014/6/this-is-nine My oldest turned 9 last month, and I was able to do a little session to document who he was on the actual day of his birthday. He didn't love it, he would much rather be behind the camera. He is learning manual mode on an old rebel t1i, and doing REALLY good. I won't allow him to turn it on auto, he has a good point and shoot for that. I was able to capture who he was through my eyes, but at the end he requested his vision, he wanted to be a Jedi Knight, and be "blacked out"  or silhouetted. This is our collaboration, our visions combined. I love all the ones that I took of him, where I can see his expressions, and his smile, but these images go way beyond love for me. They speak of his vision for himself, they are something we did together and something we both love as a result. This is him. This is nine.

A Minute With Her https://www.erinblair.photography/blog/2014/6/a-minute-with-her She never sits still, especially when there is a camera involved. She makes me work for every shot. I asked for her help on this, and she gave me a minute, maybe slightly over that, but not much. I love the light in our garage and just wanted a couple shots and I never mind documenting her faces.
